Surveys and data

Where is my data stored?

On your device and, if iCloud sync is on, in your own private iCloud account. We can't access it. See the privacy policy.

My data isn't showing on my other device.

Make sure both devices are signed in to the same Apple Account with iCloud turned on, and that you have a Pro, Contractor or Lifetime plan (sync is a paid feature). Sync turns on the next time TrapScout opens after you upgrade, and can take a few minutes after you reconnect to the internet. TrapScout's Settings shows the current iCloud sync status.

How accurate are the loss estimates?

They're engineering estimates based on orifice size, line pressure, an editable failure factor, and your steam cost and operating hours. Every result has a Show work section with the formula and assumptions so you can check them.

Why does a plugged or flooded trap show $0?

A plugged or flooded trap doesn't waste steam, so it has no energy loss. TrapScout flags it as a process and safety risk instead, because backed-up condensate can cause water hammer and poor heating.

NFC tags and QR labels

Which NFC tags work?

NTAG213 or NTAG215 tags. Use on-metal tags or, better, a stainless wire hang tag a few inches from the trap, rated for the trap's temperature (steam at 150 psig is about 366 °F). iPads can't read NFC; use the QR labels instead.

A tag won't scan.

Hold the top edge of the iPhone against the tag for a second. Tags stuck directly to steel often can't be read; move it to a hang tag. You can always type the trap's tag number instead.

TrapScout says a tag is locked or too small.

TrapScout locks each tag after writing it so it can't be changed. A tag that's already locked, or that isn't an NDEF-capable NTAG chip, can't be used. Try a new blank tag.

I scanned a tag and it says "Tag not in your plant."

The tag belongs to a trap that isn't in your surveys, for example one tagged by another contractor. TrapScout never shows another account's data. You can add the trap to your own survey.

Purchases

How do I restore a purchase?

In TrapScout, go to Settings → Restore Purchases, signed in with the Apple Account you bought it with.

How do I cancel a subscription?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple. On iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid being charged for the next period.

How do I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.

TrapScout calculations are estimates for planning and screening purposes only. All designs, sizing, and safety-related decisions must be verified by a qualified engineer in accordance with applicable codes and manufacturer data.
